Venice Summer Institute 2013: The Determinants of Gender Gaps: Institutional Design and Historical Factors

22 – 23 July 2013

Venice International University, San Servolo, Venice

While gender gaps in education and health have been decreasing remarkably over time and their differences across countries have been narrowing, gender gaps in the labour market and in politics are more persistent and still vary largely across countries. To identify appropriate explanations for these phenomena is a challenging task, as these differences are not fully explained by standard economic variables, such as per capita income, level of development, degree of specialization of the economy.
