Designing Environmental Policies

Jessica Coria’s main research interest is the optimal design of environmental policies. To this end, she does both theoretical and applied work, though most of her work is within the modeling of environmental regulation, investigating how environmental regulation incentivizes polluters to reduce emissions, invest and develop cleaner technologies, and comply with environmental regulations.

Ms. Coria’s research interests lie in the areas of environmental economics, industrial organization, regulatory economics and applied microeconomics. Currently, a major focus of her research is on the effects of the multi-governance of environmental issues and pollutants’ interactions on optimal policy design. Here, she is interested in the analysis of optimal policy mixes and identifying institutional structures that foster sustainable development. Her ongoing research also concerns the study of how data gaps affect the probability of implementing environmental regulations, and the design of these regulations. She actively seeks to bridge economics with knowledge from other disciplines to be able to understand environmental problems and design novel environmental policies.

Ms. Coria is an Associate Professor/Docent in the Department of Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She holds a PhD in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as an MA in Public Policy, a BSc in Economics and a BSc in Business from the same institution. Her work has been published in leading journals in environmental economics, as well as in several general interest journals. She has served as Associate Editor for the journal Resource and Energy Economics and has been a member of the Scientific Board of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.
