Jose Garcia-Louzao, Bank of Lithuania, CESifo Guest from 26 September to 1 October 2022.
Migration Outflows in Lithuania
Jose Garcia-Louzao’s research interests focus on labor economics and policy evaluation, with special attention to the role of labor market institutions or aggregate shocks determining labor market outcomes of workers and firms. During his stay at CESifo, he will work with Yvonne Giesing and Nadzeya Laurentsyeva on a joint project aimed at investigating the effect of migration outflows triggered by the 2004 EU enlargement on the labor market outcomes of non-migrant workers in Lithuania, using comprehensive administrative data from Social Security records for the period 2000–2020.
Mr. Garcia-Louzao is currently working on different projects, studying the impact of temporary contracts on life-cycle wage profiles, the effect of different firm ownership schemes on the careers of young workers, or how location and inequality interact over different stages of development, as well as the evaluation of different labor market policies that were implemented in Lithuania in recent years, such as the increase of the minimum wage or the introduction of the New Labor Code.
Jose Garcia-Louzao is a research economist at the Applied Macroeconomic Research Division of the Bank of Lithuania. He is also a research fellow at Vilnius University. He received his PhD in Economics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Barcelona School of Economics in 2019. His work has been published in Labour Economics, Oxford Economic Papers and the British Journal of Industrial Relations.
