ifo/CESifo Visiting Researcher

Daryna Grechyna, University of Granada, CESifo Guest from 16 September to 12 December 2022.

Public Policies, Political Polarization, and Economic Outcomes

In one of her current projects, Daryna Grechyna studies the differences in the individual preferences towards desirable public policies (taxation, subsidies, targeted public spending) among different social groups; the consequences of such differences for political outcomes; and the impact of public policies on the evolution of individual preferences. In particular, her aim is to understand whether particular economic incentives directed to minority groups can reduce social polarization of attitudes towards preferred economic outcomes and whether such incentives are feasible in a representative democracy. Ms. Grechyna plans to pursue this project while visiting CESifo.

Daryna Grechyna’s research interests lie at the intersection of Economics and Political Science. In particular, she works in the fields of Political Economy, Public Economics, Macroeconomics, and Economic Growth and Development. She uses quantitative models of government and household inter-temporal choices in the presence of political frictions to study optimal public policies and their impact on economic outcomes. She also uses large-scale survey data to evaluate various aspects of preferences polarization in society.

Daryna Grechyna is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Granada. Previously she worked as Assistant Professor at Middlesex University London and the University of Auckland.
