Kaspar Wüthrich
ifo/CESifo Visiting Researcher
Kaspar Wüthrich, University of California, San Diego, CESifo Guest from 29 May to 2 June 2022.
Difference-in Differences Applications
Kaspar Wüthrich will be working on an econometric project on difference-in-differences (DiD) methods while at CESifo. This project aims to better understand the role of selection into treatment in DiD applications. The theoretical results have important implications for empirical practice. They provide applied researchers with theory-based templates for justifying the parallel trends assumptions commonly imposed for identifying and estimating causal effects in DiD applications based on contextual knowledge about selection.
Mr. Wüthrich will present his current research at an ifo Lunchtime Seminar. Mr. Wüthrich works on various topics in theoretical econometrics, including quantile methods, IV methods, difference-in-differences and synthetic control methods, ML methods for prediction and inference, inference in experiments, and detecting p-hacking. He also works on several projects in applied econometrics, policy evaluation as well as applied public and health economics.
Kaspar Wüthrich is an Assistant Professor at the University of California San Diego and a Research Professor at the ifo Center for Public Finance and Political Economy. He is a CESifo Research Network Affiliate. Mr. Wüthrich earned his doctorate from the University of Bern, where he was subsequently a Post-Doc and Lecturer. He was also a visiting PhD student at MIT.
