ifo/CESifo Visiting Researcher
Corbett A. Grainger, University of Wisconsin – Madison, CESifo Guest from 20 to 25 September 2021.
Mobility and Air Pollution in India
Corbett Grainger has published on a variety of environmental and resource topics and regularly collaborates with NGOs and development banks. In a new paper in association with the World Bank, he and his colleagues study the impact of ground transportation on emissions and air pollution in India. Using mobile phone data paired with remote sensing estimates of pollution, they quantify the impact of changes in ground-level mobility on atmospheric NOx concentrations.
Mr. Grainger’s recent research focuses on distributional impacts of environmental and resource policy as well as the political economy of regulations. His current work studies the effects of environmental regulations on different demographic groups, the political economy of environmental policies, and the economic and ecological effects of rights-based management in marine fisheries. During his visit at CESifo, he will be working on a model of resource rent taxation and lobbying efforts by extractive industries.
Corbett Grainger is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he specializes in environmental and resource economics. He is also a faculty affiliate (“Professor II”) at the Center for Climate and Energy Transformation at the University of Bergen, Norway. He is Co-Editor of Land Economics and a CESifo Research Network Fellow. Mr. Grainger has a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara as well as degrees from the University of Minnesota and Concordia College.
