Venice Summer Institute 2023: People’s Understanding and Support for Economic Policies
San Servolo, Venice, Italy
Scientific Organizers: Stefano Carattini and Klaus Schmidt
Economists need not only to have a clear idea of which instruments are most efficient and how their impacts can be evaluated ex post. Economists also need to understand why policymakers and voters sometimes oppose the use of such instruments. This is the focus of the CESifo -CRC workshop on People’s Understanding and Support for Economic Policies. The workshop discussed papers that explore the public understanding of how certain economic policy instruments work, what determines their popularity, and how to make good economic policies politically acceptable.
